Armed robbery reported in store parking lot in Castle Rock

A woman recently was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Castle Rock grocery store.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Nov. 18, Castle Rock police officers responded to the King Soopers at 5544 Promenade Parkway, where a 63-year-old woman reported having been robbed, according to a news release from the town.

After reviewing surveillance video, police determined that a man in a white SUV parked next to the woman's car on the driver's side. He opened his vehicle's door hard enough to dent her car, and when they both got out to inspect the damage, the supsect showed a gun and demanded the woman's purse.

The suspect, described in the news release as "a short Hispanic male wearing a gray hoodie," then fled in his vehicle. The woman was not injured.

Police were able to track a phone in the woman’s purse to an area near Arapahoe Road and Peoria Street, before the phone was turned off.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department’s tip line at 720-733-3517.
