Castle View

  • Coach Scott Dowis' volleyball remained top ranked in the Class 5A poll released Oct. 9 by CHSAANow.com.
  • Junior Alexa Cordes tied the Continental League lead in runs batted in with 27 and the Sabercats (11-7-1) drew a No. 23 seed for the regional state qualifying tournament. Castle View will play No. 10 Grand Junction Central (15-4-0) on Oct. 14.
  • Dillion Baker was the top Sabercats golfer in the Class 5A state tournament on Oct. 2-3 as he wound up tied for 23rd place after rounds of 75 and 76.

Douglas County

  • Abbey Montoya led the Continental League softball statistics in five categories at the end of the regular season. She was first in batting average (.684), on base percentage (.707), stolen bases (22) and tied for first in runs batted in (27).
  • The softball team (11-8-0) was seeded 13th for the regional post-season Class 5A qualifying tournament and will face No. 20 Grandview (8-11-0) in the first game of the Oct. 14 four-team tournament to determine two teams to advance to the 16-team state tournament.

Lutheran

  • Walt Cade from A&E's "Storage Wars" will be featured at the 18th annual Lutheran High School Auction on Nov. 17.
  • Westin Pals carded a 76 in the Class 3A state golf tournament, which was trimmed to one day because of weather, and the Lions wound up seventh in the team standings.
  • The volleyball team stretched its winning streak to 13 in a row and received one first place vote in the Oct. 9 CHSAANow.com 3A poll but was ranked fourth.

Rock Canyon

  • Henry Dunkleberger was consistent with two rounds of 76 at the Class 5A state golf tournament on Oct. 2-3 to finish tied for 27th place as the Jaguars were tied for ninth on the team leaderboard.
  • The softball team (13-6-0) wrapped up the regular season with four straight wins and heads into the Region 2, four-team state qualifying tournament on Oct. 14 as the No. 8 seed and plays 25th seeded Pomona in the first game.
  • The soccer team has some time off during fall break but takes on second-place Regis Jesuit on Oct. 15. The Jaguars have won five of the past six games against the Raiders.

Valor Christian

  • The three-time 4A state champion softball team wrapped up the regular season with a 19-0-0 record. The Eagles outscored the opposition 169-12 and recorded 10 shutouts. The team is the No. 1 seed in the region 1 state qualifying tournament and will play No. 32 Mesa Ridge (13-6-0) in the opening contest on Oct. 14 at Aurora Sports Park.
  • Jake Welch had rounds of 73 and 80 for a 153 two-round total to help the Eagles finish third in the Class 4A state golf tournament which was held Oct. 2-3.
  • The unbeaten football team, top-ranked in Class 5A, has regular season games remaining against Lakewood, Highlands Ranch, Poudre and Fountain Fort Carson and coach Rod Sherman's challenge is to keep the team focused. The Eagles are a combined 6-0 against the four teams still to be played.
