The Board of Douglas County Commissioners selected 28 nonprofit programs from 34 applications to share $200,000 in grant funds from the county's 2019 portion of the Philip S. Miller Trust.
Together, these programs cast a wide safety net throughout the county by delivering programs and services such as suicide prevention, medical assistance, mental health, emergency assistance and support for seniors and school-age children, according to a news release.
“Recipients of this award have a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for vulnerable and at-risk members of our community and many provide services not available through other means,” County Commissioner and Board Chairman Roger Partridge said in the release. “We are honored to continue the legacy of philanthropy established by Philip S. Miller and his wife, Jessie, who dedicated so much of their lives to helping others in Douglas County and continue to do so through this generous and thoughtful gift.”
Miller grant recipients for 2019 include many continuing grantees such as Help and Hope Center, Doctors Care, Colorado Agricultural Leadership Foundation, Douglas County Sheriff's Office's Y.E.S.S. Suicide Prevention Program and Hope's Promise. Five first-time awardees are Bridge of Hope, Cherry Hills Community Church, SECOR Cares, Metro Community Provider Network and the South Metro Safety Foundation.
