Douglas County announced a historic midterm election turnout as results came in the evening of Nov. 6.

As of 8:20 p.m., the county had received approximately 30,000 ballots on Nov. 6 alone and crews were still collecting more from drop-off sites throughout the county, a county spokeswoman said.

The total number of voted ballots exceeded 160,000 and was quickly approaching turnout from the 2016 Presidential election.

The previous midterm record was 134,000. The number of active registered voters in Douglas County was 229,426 as of Nov. 1.

Ballot processing continues through midnight on Election Day and will resume at 10 a.m. on Nov. 7 until all ballots are counted. Results become official when certified by the Douglas County Board of Canvass on Nov. 26.
