Lemieux will not seek reelection to school board

Two departing directors throw support behind District A candidate Susan Meek

Douglas County School Board Director Anne-Marie Lemieux has announced she will not seek a second term on the board.

In her announcement, she threw support behind candidate and former district spokeswoman Susan Meek, who is running in District A. Lemieux was elected the director for District C in 2015.

“After much consideration and prayerful reflection, I have decided not to run for a second term for DCSD Board of Education this November,” Lemieux said in an Aug. 14 Facebook post. “It has been a great honor to serve our community for the past four years.”

Lemieux's District C encompasses eastern and southern Highlands Ranch. She did not endorse candidates running in her district or for school board President David Ray's seat in District F, which covers the Parker area.

The seats of three incumbents — Lemieux, Wendy Vogel and Ray — are up for election in November. Ray has not announced if he will seek another term. Vogel announced July 26 she will not run, and also voiced support for Meek.

Vogel held the District A seat Meek is running for, which covers western Highlands Ranch.

Other candidates for the board so far are Kory Nelson in District F, Franceen Thompson in District C and Andy Jones, who is facing Meek in District A.

The school board election will be held Nov. 5. Candidates have until Aug. 30 to join the race.
