Grateful for essential workers

At the April 21 board of county commissioners meeting, as the commissioners weighed how much to open up the county, something was missing. Much concern was expressed for citizens stuck at home, and businesses hurting from the economic downturn. Valid concerns, to be sure. But what I didn’t hear was any acknowledgment of the 28 citizens of Douglas County who have died from coronavirus. Or over 400 families who have been sickened by it. I did not hear a single “thank you” to community members risking their health by working in medicine, nursing homes or grocery stores.

On behalf of the DougCo residents who do not collect hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to represent us, I would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude to essential workers in Douglas County. We see you.
